INTRODUCTION TO OUR COMPANY

SafER Medical Products, Inc. began operations with the purpose of developing and producing the SafER respiratory shield, endoshield and Portable Negative Pressure system in order to provide patients and healthcare workers with an innovative defense against airborne contaminants.

The Company has developed the SafER Portable Negative Pressure System, a respiratory medical system designed to capture fugitive particles emitted from patient's exhalation to provide a SafER work environment, such as ambulances, hospitals and doctors' offices. The Device is ideal for medical professionals administering tests, performing exams, and using essential equipment that increases exposure to airborne illnesses and microparticles. The Company plans to establish and promote the Device to healthcare professionals and industry experts.

The Device was created by practicing emergency room doctors who were trying to practice medicine during the COVID Pandemic. It had become clear that respiratory illness was crippling our nation and they got to work to find a solution. The result was more than what they were looking for as it not only helped with the spread of Covid but also with the spread of other airborne illnesses. Their Device quite simply helps to take ALL respiratory pathogens off the table

Branson-based SafER Medical Products, LLC and Sarasota-based ROBRADY design won a Silver International Design Award in the Industrial and Life Science Designs/Safety Designs category for their Portable Negative Pressure System.

Research on Effectiveness of the Device

Respiratory Shield

CFD Study: A computational fluid dynamics (CFD) study was performed to characterize the performance of a new Respiratory Shield. The study was intended to assess the ability of the Respiratory Shield in removing micron-sized water droplets. The suction, located at the base of the Respiratory Shield, creates an inwards flow of air towards the user which removes over 93% of 0.5 micron sized particles exhaled, 6% is re-inhaled by the patient and 1% remains within the shield. The remaining particles are suspended within the shield or re-inhaled by the user. The study also showed that when the user is given inhaled medications the intended level of medication is still delivered to the user from the nebulizer and ventilation system with this innovative air containment system.

Ambulance and Helicopter Study: This study was performed in the patient area of both helicopter and ambulance platforms, proving the effectiveness of our system. The ambulance study delineated containment of 98% of fugitive particles and the helicopter study delineated containment of 95% of fugitive particles.

Standard Hospital Room vs Negative Pressure Room Study: This study was performed in a hospital type room with negative pressure on and off. With our system on and negative pressure off, our system reduced the particle count by 2 orders of magnitude or 100%. With our system on and the negative pressure on it shows that it increases the capture rate of particles and decreases the spread of particles within the room.

Enhancement Stage

The system is currently used in multiple facilities and EMS agencies. Some professional facilities use it exclusively as part of their respiratory protocol. Across the country, the system is being used on a trial basis and feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, increasing the Company’s ability to enhance product development. The SafER System began with version 1 of the Respiratory Shield and the Endo Shield. With feedback from the medical community, version 2 of the Respiratory Shield and version 2 of the Endo Shield were developed. A smaller and quieter vacuum was also developed. SafER then created a Hospital/IV vacuum and also a hard case vacuum to add to the SafER line. A Trach Shield Prototype has now been developed and several versions of new vacuum systems are awaiting development.

What We Have Accomplished

We were able to bring a medical product to market in record time. We were in a rush to bring the product to the end users as they were in dire need of our system. Along the way we realized our system wasn't fitting all the needs our customers had. We have spent the last year redesigning the system to fit those needs. We have also begun to investigate ways for our system to gain reimbursement.

Industry average is anywhere from 2 to 5 years from proof-of concept to market. We had initial sales of version 1.0 in less than a year. We have done so at a fraction of what it normally costs. The expected cost from proof-of-concept to FDA clearance is $2-5 million for a simple product. Our products are not simple. The vacuum is class II FDA registered and the shields are class I FDA registered.

Our Goals

  • Increase inventory to meet demand in a timely manner;
  • Pursue Insurance Reimbursement for shield system;
  • Establish patents in other countries where product is already being presented;
  • Establish sales force to market product; and
  • New product design.
